An Introduction to Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers are very thin shells of ceramic, customized to match the shape of your teeth and blend seamlessly with your smile. We proudly offer veneers made from advanced IPS Empress® porcelain, renowned for its durability and lifelike luster. We offer two types of porcelain veneers: traditional and minimal-prep. To place traditional veneers, your doctor will need to remove a thin layer of enamel. Minimal-prep veneers are thinner, and often do not require any alteration of your natural tooth structure.
The Application Process
Veneer placement can typically be completed in two appointments and is often combined with additional procedures for a complete smile makeover. At your first appointment, you will discuss your aesthetic goals, and your doctor will create a treatment plan to meet these objectives. If you are receiving traditional veneers, he will prep your teeth, removing a very small amount of enamel to make room for the porcelain. When your teeth are fully prepped (or if you are receiving minimal-prep veneers), he will take pictures and impressions of your teeth, which he will send to a nearby dental lab. We have worked with the same lab for many years, and stand behind the superior quality of their work.
Once your veneers are finished, you will return for the second visit. Your doctor will check the fit of your veneers to ensure a comfortable bite and stunning smile. Then he will lightly etch your teeth and affix the porcelain using dental resin. After they have been bonded, your veneers offer immediate functionality. Veneers can also be combined with other cosmetic procedures, such as gum contouring, for even more comprehensive results.
Benefits of Porcelain Veneers
There are numerous reasons to consider enhancing your smile with traditional or minimal-prep veneers, including:
- Veneers can conceal a wide range of cosmetic concerns, including chips, cracks, dark stains, misshapen teeth, overly-spaced teeth, and even minor misalignment.
- Veneers are easy to care for. In most cases, you will simply have to brush and floss regularly and make routine visits to your dentist.
- With proper dental hygiene, veneers can last 10 years or more.
- Veneers look and feel naturally beautiful.
In addition, with an improved smile, you could enjoy an overall enhanced appearance and increased self-confidence.
