Every bride wants to look her best on their wedding day from head to toe because she knows that while this special day only happens once, the pictures will last forever. With all the smiling you’ll be doing, you need to make sure your teeth are part of your wedding planning too. With some help from Dr. David M. Kaffey and these helpful tips, your smile will be perfect for that “I do” moment.
Take a trip to the dentist
The first step in any teeth improvement regimen is to visit Dr. Kaffey, and get your regular cleaning and check-up. Once he gets a good look at your teeth, he can help you decide the best option for making those pearly whites shine for your big day.
Start a Whitening Treatment
There are a few different treatments that you can choose from to lighten up your teeth until they match your wedding dress. Depending on how crazy your wedding planning schedule is, you may want to try an easy one-visit treatment called Zoom® Whitening. In this treatment, Dr. Kaffey will apply hydrogen peroxide gel to your teeth and shine a special LED light on them. As the light activates the gel, the whitening properties of the solution begin to break down stains and discoloration. This will be done in two to four 15-minute sessions.
Zoom may not be the right option for everyone, so you can also choose the Opalesence® Treatment, in which custom trays will be molded from your teeth and you’ll use a special whitening gel for about 30 minutes every night for several weeks.
Kick your oral hygiene into high gear
Make sure you are brushing and flossing regularly to keep your mouth healthy and to help maintain your newly white teeth. Try a toothpaste that has whitening agents in it to supplement the whitening treatment you received and use a mouthwash that will prevent any tooth decay or build-up. Remember, whitening toothpaste work best at helping to maintain an already white smile. They are MUCH less effective at getting teeth white initially.
It also helps to avoid foods and drinks that are known to cause staining on your teeth, such as red wine, coffee or berries, and try not to eat too many sticky sweets. Life before a wedding can get hectic, but don’t let your oral hygiene fall to the wayside.
